I'm Chelsea.

There’s just something so great about a staycation. You don’t have to get on a plane or roam far, you can pack as little or much as you would like, and you get to explore a part of your city you usually don’t have the chance to truly slow down in and enjoy. This was exactly why I was so excited to escape Downtown Austin and head to the Domain for a staycation at Lone Star Court.

Lone Star Court is a piece of Hill Country in the Domain. As you enter the property, you honestly would not expect that you are essentially in the middle of a shopping mall. This retro-inspired, 123-room, boutique hotel evokes a sense of nostalgia with a modern twist.

Although one of the best aspects of Lone Star Court is that you are walking distance to everything in both the Domain and Domain Northside, there’s also an on-site restaurant and food truck court if you don’t want too venture far. Also there’s complimentary self-parking, so mandatory valet parking or pricey overnight parking fees here!

Now let’s take a look at this hidden gem in North Austin…

Check-In to Lone Star Court

Time to check in and start your staycation! We stayed in a Traditional Room, and it was plenty of space for the two of us.

There are many great amenities such as a full size “SMEG” refrigerator, fully stocked honor bar with snacks and goodies, separate seating area, complimentary WiFi, bathrobes (a must for me when traveling), and more.

Our favorite feature however were the rocking chairs right outside of our door. We sat out there with our coffee in the morning and with a glass of wine and popcorn in the evening listening to the live music across the way at Water Trough.

Head to Happy Hour + Dinner at The Water Trough

Lone Star Court’s on-site restaurant, The Water Trough, is Texas dining at its finest serving up Texas inspired dishes and cocktails with an open-air, casual atmosphere.

We started with Sotex Margaritas (Casa Noble Resposado + Ancho Chile Liquor + lemon and lime juice), a Half Dozen Oysters (served with horseradish + house cocktail sauce + lemon + mignonette) and Spicy Shrimp & Avocado Dip (served with tortilla chips). For our entrees we decided to share the Smoked Chicken & Venison Sausage Gumbo and Bacon Brussel Sprouts, which ended up being plenty of food!

Happy hour runs daily from 4-7pm and includes $5 well liquors, house wine, Texas Tea, and Deep Mimosa as well as $2 Lone Stars.

Enjoy Live Music at The Water Trough

The Water Trough offers live music every Wednesday through Saturday featuring different local acts. I loved that we could go to The Water Trough to watch the band (open to the public!) but also sit on the front porch of our room to enjoy it. Check out the music schedule here.

Dine on Breakfast Al Fresco at The Water Trough

Breakfast is included at The Water Trough when staying at Lone Star Court! Head down anytime from 6:30am to 10:30am to enjoy a traditional Texan breakfast of breakfast tacos and all the fixings. Looking for something lighter? They have plenty of fruit and a make your own yogurt parfait bar. Also, the ladies who work at breakfast are absolute sweethearts and even made me a special breakfast of scrambled eggs and egg whites with lots of veggies since I am lactose intolerant. It means so much to me when hotels accommodate my dietary needs, and I honestly can say they were some of the best eggs I have had!

Relax & Unwind with a Resort Day

To me, there is nothing better than a good resort day. We took Deep Mimosas (Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka + orange juice + Ruffino Prosecco) poolside for a fun and relaxing resort day. The pool is reminiscent of a Texan swimming hole, which makes you once again feel like you’re not in a city. Once your pool time is done, take advantage of Lone Star Court’s complimentary bicycle rentals to explore the Domain (and maybe even get some shopping in!)
