Let me preface by saying I wasn’t always the ‘jump right in’, take chances, independent gal I am nowadays. Who knows maybe I’m still not. I wouldn’t go to summer camp unless a friend tagged along. I rarely joined sports or after school activities unless a friend was joining with me. Both my parents worked and I despised having to stay after school and try to make friends. No, I most definitely did not like going at it alone or changes of any sort.

Now my career is full of risk, taking ownership and chances, and most definitely independence. Graduating from college and starting your own business without a steady income or schedule is scary. The first year I think I sent my mom over 100 job postings and asked her weekly if I should give in and get a “real job”. She told me to give it a year. And boy am I glad I did (thanks, mom!)

Not saying I don’t call my parents crying on the side of the road because my tire pressure is low and I seriously have NO IDEA why I cannot fill up my own tires correctly (does anyone else have this problem?) Or choose to live in an apartment because I like that I have a management company to take care of changing my lightbulbs and fixing my AC when it goes out. Or even still do my own taxes out of an outdated Excel document I created because I don’t want to take the time to learn a new system.

I get a lot of emails and messages asking how I started my career, and I promise if I have not responded I have them flagged and will respond in due time! Hopefully this series will help you as well.

Maybe it’s purely my passion for my career and desired quality of life that fuels this nonstop insanity I call my business. Or maybe it was just a natural progression as I grew older to grow into this version of myself, and she was always hiding behind a shy and slightly nervous facade. Regardless, I don’t have it all figured out by any means. Each year I’m amazed by how much I have learned and changed. And if I can help another woman in any way work to achieve her dream whether in her career, moving somewhere new, or just enjoying life better overall, then I’ll feel like this new series has true meaning.
